đ In this weekâs edition of As the AI World Turns, we find Big Tech players going all in on designing their own AI chips to decrease reliance on Nvidia.
Nvidiaâs AI chips lead on performance â but theyâre hella expensive and in short supply.
Tech players rely on them heavily. According to a recent New York Times article, chip orders by Meta and Microsoft accounted for a whopping 25% of Nvidiaâs sales in the last two quarters.
Amazon, Microsoft and Google have put their own chips on the table and Meta recently announced it will be rolling out a new one soon.
Then, of course, there are a number of new AI chip market entrants, AMD, Intel and others. OpenAI has been looking to get into the game as well.
Still, no chip has yet emerged as an equal to Nvidiaâs powerful H100s (and the next generation H200s start shipping later this year).
What do you think - will this be the year Nvidiaâs reign as AI chip champion comes to an end?
